Up until now, clients received an appointment confirmation email which they then had to remember to add to their own calendar. Because the option didn't exist to easily add the appointment to their calendar clients might forget to add it and miss an appointment.
Now, appointment confirmation emails conveniently provide clients the option to add confirmed appointments to their calendar. Clicking the iCal, Google, or Outlook option will open the calendar and allow your client to easily save the event details.
